HSBC’s Head of Greater China has announced her departure

Helen Wong, the previous Head of Greater China for HSBC, has announced her decision to leave her role in pursuit of a new opportunity following four years in the position.

Helen has departed the bank following 27 years of employment, having first joined HSBC in 1992. The announcement of Wong’s decision shortly follows the announcement of CEO John Flint’s departure from the firm, and the subsequent announcement of the bank’s intent to cut 4,000 jobs within the firm.

There has been no announcement of a replacement for Helen, according to a report by LiveMint. Diana Cesar (Regional Chief of Hong Kong), P.H. Lau (Regional Chief of Macau), David Liao (Regional Chief of mainland China), and Adam Chen (Regional Chief of Taiwan) will all continue to collaborate, despite the fact that they will no longer report to Wong, and the described lack of intent to find someone to fill Helen’s role, which would give the Regional Chiefs a new superior.

Spokeswoman Maggie Cheung has stated that Wong announced her resignation prior to the John Flint’s exit from the role of CEO.

Her departure also coincides with HSBC’s appointment of Barry O’Byrne as Interim Chief of Global Commercial Banking, who would be replacing Noel Quinn, who was appointed in 2016.
