Citi appoints Joy Cheng as Head of Citi Commercial Bank for Hong Kong

Citi has named Joy Cheng, a veteran with 30 years of experience, as the new head of its commercial banking division in Hong Kong.

Cheng steps into the role previously held by Anson Kwok, who retired on January 1, and will report directly to Gunjan Kalra, the head of Citi Commercial Bank (CCB) for the Asia North, Australia & Asia South clusters, and also to Aveline San, CEO and head of banking for Citi in Hong Kong and Macau.

Starting her career at Citi as a management associate, Cheng most recently served as the bank's head of corporate banking in Hong Kong. Her career at Citi includes significant positions such as the head of financial institutions in Hong Kong and the head of Asia Pacific multinational coverage for the financial institutions group.

CCB operates across 11 markets in Asia, including Australia, mainland China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam, with Hong Kong being one of its largest markets globally in terms of flow revenue. Kalra has highlighted the bank's growth in market share within Hong Kong, crediting its success to partnerships with mid-sized corporations across various sectors like healthcare, technology, industrials, consumer & retail, and services. Kalra expressed confidence that Cheng's proven track record, extensive experience, and strong client relations will be pivotal in advancing Citi's commercial banking business in Hong Kong to new heights of success.
