Sandeep Das was appointed as Managing Director and Head of Standard Chartered Private Bank in India in June 2011.
Sandeep has 20 years of experience with the bank and has handled diverse roles across Wealth and Segments. He had been officiating as the Head of Consumer Banking in India for the last nine months. Prior to this, he was the General Manager for Premium Banking, and was responsible for launching the Priority Banking proposition, Preferred Banking proposition and was responsible for creating a whole range of product suite available to this segment of customers, including their International Banking needs.
Sandeep’s senior roles have involved planning, strategy, overall business direction, control and management, directing the business focus on the high net worth affluent, achieving business targets as well as implementing global standards for the business in the country.
Sandeep started his banking career with Standard Chartered Bank in 1991 and has held diverse roles and assignments across the country. His roles spanned from being the Regional Manager – Middle East NRI Services responsible for addressing and servicing NRI clients located in the Middle East, to Regional Head – Distribution Network responsible for the Branch Banking business for the Northern region and Eastern region, and from December 2004 to November 2006 as Business Head - Investments & Bancassurance in Wealth Management. In his roles in the North and the East, he was one of the two CEO’s representatives. Sandeep was appointed General Manager – Wealth Management in 2006, encompassing NRI Business; Liabilities; Investments; Bancassurance; Wealth Management Lending and Equity Broking (having acquired stake in UTI Securities). During Sandeep’s tenure, the Bank was judged as the Best Performing Bank Award in the Financial Advisor Awards 2008 by CNBC & ICRA and the Best In India Award for Structured Products by the Structured Products Group, in December 2007. Sandeep was appointed as the General Manager – Premium Banking & NRI Business in March 2009.
Sandeep graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) degree in Economics from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi and followed up with an MBA from XLRI. Additionally, he attended executive management programmes at various institutions such as Said Business School (formerly Templeton College) at Oxford University and at Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.
Sandeep is based in Mumbai. He is passionate about wildlife conservation efforts and being a “coach” for his children.
