The Indian wealth management sector : Professionalising to meet the rapidly multiplying number of high-net-worth individuals

The Hubbis India Wealth Management Forum that took place in late August highlighted the dramatic pace of private wealth accumulation in the country, as the economy and the capital markets continue to power ahead.

Deepak Khurana, Head of Business Development - Buyside South Asia at Thomson Reuters, explained to the audience at the Hubbis India Wealth Management Forum how the firm’s all-encompassing flagship terminal, Thomson Reuters Eikon, can provide bankers and other advisers in the wealth management community with a one-stop resource on global financial markets, including tailored information flows, estimates and other vital data points so necessary for advisers to advise and investors to commit their capital wisely.

Sensex 38000 – Invest or Divest?
Rajesh Kothari, Founder and Managing Director of AlfAccurate Advisors, has seen his firm’s India equity fund outperform the BSE 500 Index in each of the past five years. Armed with his wealth of experience and expertise he addressed the audience at the Hubbis India Wealth Management Forum to highlight why careful selection of stocks will allow investors to continue to achieve solid equity returns, despite the indices having surged in recent years.

Future-proofing via Digital Transformation of the Wealth Management Offering
Abhra Roy, Head of Finacle Wealth Management Solution for Infosys Finacle, is passionate about digital transformation for the wealth management industry, which he says lags behind the banking and insurance sector in enhancing its internal (user) and external (customer) digital experiences. He said this must change and explained how in doing so the industry will future-proof its revenues.

Re-engineering the wealth management model for foreign banks in India
Atinkumar Saha, Managing Director & Head for Wealth Management Coverage in India at Deutsche Bank Wealth Management, says the local wealth market is encouraging foreign banks to again invest in people, technology, products and services as they strive to be more client-centric.

Accessing the offshore market for priority and HNWI customers
Philip Story, Head of Distribution, EMEA for life insurance firm Investor’s Trust, told the audience of the dramatic growth of wealth in India and amongst non-resident Indians, and how rising demand for offshore investment is creating a world of opportunities for firms such as Investor’s Trust to help domestic and overseas Indian investors diversify their portfolios.

In her role as Head of Business Development, Intermediary and Partnership for Asia at Hawksford, Irene Lee has a bird’s eye view of the core market and regulatory trends driving wealth management in the region. Lee altered the audience to the new and ever-tighter regulatory and compliance demands that are emerging both globally and within in Asia that will impact the wealth management industry.

Salil Thanawala, Senior Partner of the Family Office and Institutions Group, Edelweiss Global Wealth Management surveyed the growing universe of family offices in India, highlighting the many constituents of risk which the family office must manage to effectively serve the ever-growing number of high net worth families. He also proposed the best strategies for the family office structures to mitigate those risks, whilst also growing the family wealth in line with their individual risk-reward appetite.
