Legg Mason announces appointment of Head of Asia Pacific (Ex-Japan)

Andy Sowerby has been announced as Legg Mason’s new Head of Asia Pacific (ex-Japan), a new, expanded role intended to strengthen the firm’s presence in the region further.

In addition to his appointment to his new role as Head of Asia Pacific, Sowerby will also continue in his role as Legg Mason’s Country Head and Managing Director for Legg Mason Australia & New Zealand; this is a position he has held since 2016.

Of Sowerby’s appointment, Legg Mason’s Head of Global Distribution, Terry Johnson, said that “Sowerby has more than 25 years of experience in senior distribution roles, including Board level experience at both Investec Asset Management and Martin Currie, an investment affiliate of Legg Mason.”

Johnson continued “His management experience, coupled with his strong track record over the past three years leading our Australasian business, has made him the ideal candidate to take on additional responsibilities in this region. Lennie has been instrumental in establishing many of our business relationships in Asia and we would like to thank him for his contribution.”

The firm’s current Regional Head of Asia (ex-Japan), Lennie Lim, is set to retire in March 2020, and will be slowly transitioning his duties to Sowerby over the course of the next few months.

In his new role, Sowerby will be reporting to Johnson, as he had been doing in his position in the Australasian region.
