Charles Russell Speechlys announces New Additions to Hong Kong Operation

Charles Russell Speechlys has announced the appointment of 7 new team members to a variety of roles in its Hong Kong office as it celebrates the two-year anniversary of the division.

Genevieve Ku has joined the London-Headquartered law firm as Counsel. She brings over a decade of experience in the region to her new role, having previously held positions with Winston & Strawn and RPC, amongst others.

Patrick Chan has also joined the Hong Kong office as Counsel, having previously been a partner with Boase Cohen & Collins, where his role spanned a wide range of services, including commercial litigation, contentious and non-contentious shareholder disputes, and company and commercial matters. In his new role, he will also cover employment disputes.

Carmen Cheng has joined the law firm as a Senior Associate, having worked under Jonathan Mok, Principal, for 7 years. In addition to her time spend in the private practise, Cheng joined a global bank to work with their high net worth clients. In her new role, she will be assisting Mok and Elaine Sum, Counsel, who has been in the practise for 15 years.

King Ho Tan has been announced as an Associate of the Hong Kong office, joining the team of Jeffrey Lee, who was promoted to the role of Partner in early 2019. Lee’s team focuses on tax, trusts and succession, with Lee advising individuals, families, trustees and private banks both in the UK and abroad.

Jason Wong has also joined the Hong Kong office as an Associate, alongside the additional new appointment of Janice Hui and Marco Kwok as Legal Executives.

The Hong Kong Office, which is associated with Jonathan Mok Legal, was established in 2017, with Mok having stated at the time that “Charles Russell Speechlys decided to choose Hong Kong due to its geographical advantage as a gateway to China,” as expressed in a report by Asia Business Law Journal, with the establishment of the office coming as a product of Charles Russell Speechlys’ “international expansion strategy,” as termed by Managing Partner James Carter at the time of its establishment.

The growth of Charles Russell Speechlys globally was reflected in the firm’s appointment of 9 Partners in early 2019, one of which being the aforementioned Lee. Other key appointments in the region included Mark Hill and Thanos Karvelis, who are both based with the firm’s the Dubai operation.
