CFA Institute announces New Leadership

Margaret Franklin, Diane Nordin and Daniel Gamba have been appointed to key roles for the CFA Institute, the global association of investment management professionals.

Franklin has been named as the CFA Institute’s new President and Chief Executive Officer. She brings nearly three decades of experience in the investment management industry to her new role, with her most recent role being the President for BNY Mellon Wealth Management’s Canadian operation.

Prior to her time with BNY Mellon, Franklin was the Chief Operations Officer for Marret Asset Management, a specialist fixed income manager head-quartered in Canada. In addition to this, she was a board member for the CFA for nearly 9 years and was a partner with KJ Harrison & Partners for over 7 years.

Of her appointment, Franklin stated that ““I am very excited to be starting work this week and am truly honoured to assume the role of President and CEO of CFA Institute. I value my long professional relationship with CFA Institute and am both humbled and honoured to lead this august body of professionals.”

Diane Nordin has been announced to be ascending to the role of Chair of the CFA’s board of governors. She has been a charter holder for nearly 30 years and joined the board of governors for the CFA in 2016.

In addition to her new role, she is a member of the board of directors and the chair of the compensation committee for Antares Capital, a Chicago-headquartered financial services firm. She is also a fellow of Harvard University, and a member of the audit committee for Fannie Mae.’

Nordin stated that ““I look forward to working with Marg and her leadership team, and our members around the world to continue our work on advancing the highest standards of ethics, education and investment profession excellence.”

She continued that “The CFA charter is the only global credential in investment management, and we remain committed to developing future professionals, furthering the professional success of our members, and building a better financial industry for the ultimate benefit of society.”

Daniel Gamba has been made the Vice Chair of the CFA’s board of governors. He is currently the Global Head of Active Equity Product Strategy and a Managing Director at BlackRock; in this role, Gamba responsibilities extend to platform strategy, product development, and business activities to drive growth across Active Equities in the Americas, EMEA and Asia-Pacific.  

Prior to his role at BlackRock, Gamba was the co-head of iShares US operation, and their head of Americas Institutional Business. This saw him responsible for leading business strategy, client service and business development for iShares ETFs in the Americas.

In addition to his position on the board for the CFA, Gamba is also co-Chair of Somos Latinx network at BlackRock and is a board member of Northwestern University’s Alumni Association.
