Bloomberg Announces Fixed Income Indices Rebrand

Bloomberg has announced that the Bloomberg Barclays fixed income benchmark indices will be rebranded as the “Bloomberg Indices” as of August 24, 2021.

This change will occur as planned at the end of the five-year period following Bloomberg’s acquisition of Barclays Risk Analytics and Index Solutions (BRAIS) in August of 2016, Bloomberg said in a press release.

Steve Berkley, CEO, Bloomberg Index Services, said: “We’re very grateful for the support we’ve received from Barclays since the acquisition in 2016. We are excited by the growth and innovation that we’ve seen across our indices business, and we look forward to continuing to provide leading index solutions not only in fixed income but across asset classes.”

Paul Degen, Head of Credit Sales, Barclays, said: “Throughout Barclays’ history, we have constantly evolved and innovated to better serve our clients’ changing needs. Having partnered with Bloomberg for many years, we are confident they will build on this tradition and grow under the new brand of the Bloomberg Indices. We thank them for the continued partnership and support.”

Since 1973, the Bloomberg Barclays Indices have been the most widely-used indices for fixed income investors seeking objective, rules-based, and representative benchmarks to measure asset class risk and returns. Whether published under the banner of Kuhn Loeb, Lehman Brothers, Barclays or Bloomberg Barclays, these indices have provided investors with a wealth of market information. On August 24, 2016, Bloomberg acquired these assets from Barclays, with the agreement that they be co-branded for five years. As of August 24, 2021, the indices will be branded as the Bloomberg Indices.

Bloomberg provides an independent, transparent approach to indexing for global customers across core asset classes. Bloomberg also offers an array of services to clients interested in custom index development, investable index products, index administration and calculation agent services.
