Two exciting trends align neatly in the form of thematic investments and technology investments. The growth of thematic investing across the world and increasingly in Asia is well documented, utilising a top-down investment approach, designed to capitalise on opportunities created by macroeconomic, geopolitical and technological trends that are both structural and transformative in nature. And the global trend towards institutional and retail liquidity being increasingly focused on the technology sector is showing no signs of abating. analyse how Asia’s wealth management community and investors can best access investments in the technology sector, and where the best opportunities are today. In terms of access, there is always the stock picking route but increasingly there are excellent opportunities through both active funds and the rapidly expanding world of ETFs.

And geographically, the big game hunting is no longer solely limited to the global Big Techs from the US, as there are some major tech companies in Asia. For example China’s Tencent and Alibaba are in the top 10 tech companies globally by market valuation, and so too are Taiwan’s TSMC and Korea’s Samsung Electronics. Moreover, the pace of Asia’s technology expansion is dramatic as well - in China, technology innovation is now literally rampant, the underlying technology consumer market is truly enormous, and add to that the Chinese government’s seemingly utter commitment to digitisation, 5G and other major advances, and there is truly remarkable opportunity ahead. On top of all this the worlds of medicine/pharma, transportation, energy and other key sectors of the world economy have all moved inexorably closer to the universe of technology, with a profound increasing structural alignment between tech and a host of industries, including of course financial services.

The Hubbis Digital Dialogue event of July 29 will focus attention on all these key trends in what will certainly prove a valuable and interesting discussion amongst our chosen experts.

Technology investing in the post covid-19 world

    • In the global equity markets, where are the opportunities today in technology investment, and what are the key trends ahead?
    • What are the broad regional trends, and will we see major Asian, especially Chinese, tech giants rise to challenge the supremacy of the US Big Techs?
    • Stock picking is one route in for private investors, but what about the numerous successful active funds managed by experts, and the rising tide of ETFs?
    • What about the rising number of smart beta ETFs, designed to give investors a refined access to tech sector opportunities, especially in markets such as China, where there are many companies outside the giants that are perhaps not so well researched or well known?
    • How can investors play the global technological evolution across a variety of industry sectors, for example green energy, electric vehicles, medical/pharma/biotech, so on and so forth?
    • What about the private markets route, is that the best avenue through which to access technology opportunities at an earlier stage?
    • And how does the wealth management industry in Asia position itself to take advantage of these remarkable opportunities?
