WealthTalk - Building trust – ‘ethics’ at the core of wealth management

    Atin Kumar Saha

Managing Director & Head Wealth Management Coverage, India

    Deutsche Bank Wealth Management

    • We are united by our mission to make a successful career in the ‘wealth’ space
    • With strong macro tailwinds, and a stable government with a promise of transformational reforms, India’s expected trajectory of growth over the next decade or more is bound to translate into enormous wealth creation. India, and we, in the wealth space, are poised for greater opportunities
    • To harness these opportunities and build our careers, we need to balance business interests with client interest in the most trustworthy manner
    • The core of this business is the client-adviser relationship – which is built on ‘trust’. A trust deficit can mar all the opportunities that a growing wealth industry provides. Ours is a  fiduciary responsibility that requires us to put the clients’ interests first
    • Thus, ethical practices of participants in the industry is one of the most critical factors for a sustainable, enriching wealth industry – central to our career growth too

Event Summary

Keeping India on track for a bright wealth management future

The country’s wealth management sector has seen impressive growth in AUM over the past couple of years. But investor education, adviser compensation, competency and various other aspects of the industry need scrutiny and improvement to capitalise on the industry’s potential.

Panel Discussions

We held 4 interactive panel discussions throughout the day – which involved 23 senior industry practitioners who we invited to participate and share their thoughts. We have also incorporated into the summaries below the briefing notes which speakers sent to us in advance of the event. Plus, we have included the results of audience polling as well as questions we received from delegates. Click on each headline to view the web versions of these – from which you can also access the PDFs.

Taking the wealth management industry forward in India
Creating business models to enable firms across the country to maintain the impressive growth seen in AUM and client numbers in recent years, will depend on more training for advisers, client-centric incentive structures and a way to get investors to place more value in the advice they receive.
