HUBBIS INVESTMENT FORUM - Hong Kong 2023
Hong Kong

We all know that 2022 was dramatically different from 2021, and far worse than expectations in many different ways. The Hubbis Investment Solutions Forum will have as its main target the mission of drilling down into how the wealth management industry at large in Asia is helping its private clients – from HNW and UHNW individuals to mass affluent investors – build or adapt their portfolios in the face of these many significant challenges, most of which look set to persist well into 2023 and potentially beyond.
Whatever the particular view espoused, there is no doubt that private clients the world over have needed to adjust their portfolios in the face of these unfortunate set of circumstances. Our 20-plus speakers – all experts in their fields - will debate how Asia’s mass affluent HNW and UHNW investors should be adjusting their holdings, for example shifting from growth towards value and cyclical, from public to private assets, possibly from the major Western economies to more Asian and other emerging markets, from mainstream to more alternatives such as property, gold, or even cryptos and digital assets. And what about the elephant in the room, China, which is some ways is predictable in its trajectory, but in other ways tough to predict and pin down?
Our hand-picked speakers will focus their attention on the mainstream equity and debt markets, to determine where the right risks and rewards are to be found. For how long might value continue to eclipse growth? Which sectors, countries or regions offer the most potential as things stand right now? How do you find income across the world of equities? How do you inflation-proof your portfolios? What sort of time horizon should you be looking at for your portfolios to yield the best outcomes?
They will of course also zero in on fixed income to discover where investors should be positioning their bond and credit allocations. Do investors stick to the very short end? Do they venture down the credit curve, for example to the subordinated debt of well-rated financial institutions? Do they focus on sovereign, quasi sovereign or on credit? Which regions offer some allure, for example, Asian dollar paper or Chinese offshore debt, perhaps?
The experts will drill down into how and where the world of ESG aligns neatly with these equity and fixed income strategies and approaches to tick more of the boxes that investors want to pursue today so that the search for yield, security and liquidity is also a quest for transparency and sustainability.
The trends emerging in Asia also reflect a seismic global shift towards private markets amongst leading investment institutions. Such private assets – of all types - can offer investors strong long-term performance potential, while their historical downside resilience and lower volatility compared to public market securities also help make this asset class attractive for portfolio diversification and, to some extent, for peace of mind.
Our experts will also touch more broadly on the expanding universe of alternative investments and analyse why, for Asia’s HNW and UHNW investors, alternatives offer an increasingly appealing range of opportunities for investors to set alongside their core mainstream public financial market assets in their portfolios. They will even look across to digital asserts, not just cryptocurrencies, but tokenised assets as well.
Self-directed, advisory, DPM? Active, passive or both? Additionally, how do - or rather how should - private clients access these investments, is it via self-directed purchases, or with the help of advisory or perhaps vesting more of their investible wealth with DPM mandates? And do they buy ETFs, or actively managed funds, or focus more on DPM mandates that might play passive instruments in a more active manner?
Whatever the portfolios, the risk appetite, and the goals the private clients outline, Asian private clients need a highly professional point of access via private banks, the independent wealth community, and other key specialists to curate the right advice and help assemble the best opportunities. These clients need experts who can filter, package, promote and then monitor these investments. The greater the relevance, the better the personalisation and the more accessible the delivery of information, advice, and products, the more optimal the outcomes will be.
Please join us on September 27, 2023 for what will certainly be a timely set of presentations and discussions.
