- Many transformative forces and challenges are reshaping ‘business as we know it’
- Customer requirements worldwide are changing from a few macro interactions to many micro-moments. For example: customers are logging onto web-based channels daily instead of visiting branches a couple of times monthly; they are increasingly 24/7 in their approach
- However, European and Asia Pacific banks have approached digitisation with a great many (not very revolutionary) fintech offerings – for example, implementing 24-hour internet banking services; introducing mobile banking and enhanced digital services to execute revenue in real-time; and creating video identification / account opening
- These digital offerings are based on an ‘inside-out’ approach where the product-complexity is projected onto the web front-end
- However, to benefit from the digital transformation, banks must adopt a coherent digital strategy aligning business models, technology and processes
- The focus needs to be on process automation, including all regulatory requirements. This will also improve RM support and advice regarding regulations, cross-border matters, data privacy laws, complex relationships and products
- Such option-based platforms responding to changing regulatory and business needs are called ‘RegTech’
