Hubbis in Shanghai: China Wealth Management Forum
Mar 23, 2018
Leading lights of Asia's wealth management community came together to discuss and debate the opportunities arising out of China's rapidly growing wealth market at Hubbis' annual China Wealth Management Forum in Shanghai in October 2017.
Held at the Ritz Carlton in the centre of the city, the event saw top-level practitioners from local and universal retail banks, private banks, IFAs, family offices, asset managers, and securities firms come together to discuss the China opportunity.
The event came at an exciting time for the industry – given the increasing scope for offshoring and a more significant appetite for international diversification in China.
Experts and speakers at the event shed light on the rapid growth in the onshore market in China, and the growing sophistication on the client side in the form of demands for wealth preservation, planning and inter-generational transfer.
Speakers and panellists also noted how specific factors like RMB depreciation, stock market fluctuations and internationalisation of families are leading to higher offshore allocations in the hunt for diversification.
These trends, many of the speakers noted, have opened up more managed wealth opportunities in China but that the product and service aspects of its wealth management market need to evolve continuously in several fundamental ways.
The event also saw experts from overseas markets sharing their best practices, the components of successful businesses, and lessons learned from developing and managing wealth management offerings elsewhere with local wealth managers.
